
Dr. Satish Tongaonkar is a renowned veterinary microbiologist with over five decades of experience in virology, immunodiagnostics, and the development of animal vaccines. He has played a pivotal role in India’s veterinary biologicals landscape, contributing significantly to commercial vaccine production, disease diagnosis, and regulatory compliance in collaboration with global institutions and agencies.
Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Tongaonkar has held key positions at the National Institute of Virology, National Dairy Development Board, and Ventri Biologicals (VH Group), where he led large-scale vaccine production. His contributions include development of Marek’s Disease Vaccine, IBH and vvND vaccines, and collaborative research with institutions from the US, UK, and Australia.
He has published over 35 research papers and is the recipient of multiple lifetime achievement awards for his outstanding work in veterinary vaccinology. Currently, he serves in an advisory capacity at Vita Scientia Globus Pvt. Ltd., guiding the firm’s scientific direction and strategic collaborations. He also continues to contribute to academic research as a visiting professor at Symbiosis School of Biomedical Sciences, Pune.
